Labor & Delivery

Baby shower/Baby news

So saturday was my baby shower and I must say it was more than I could have ever imagined it to be. My best friend and my mom threw the most amazing party. It was small, quaint and perfect. The people I care most about in my life were there, and if they weren't they were there in spirit. (i know, life happens). I had the best surprise guest ever!! It was my long time pal, Genevieve! We've known each other since we were....oh I'd say 9 or so, and she and her bf totally surprised it to me! I had to admit, I was really worried, but it was awesome! (worried only cause I didn't know who it'd be!) We were also joined by our kick a** neighbor, Lacey, Tim's Gunny Amy (aka Gny Curran), and Ashley popped by for a few minutes. We got some GREAT gifts! Lots of clothes, blankets, baby necessities. It was sooo nice being able to share this with the people who matter most, I am just kicking myself in my head for not getting a single picture of my mom or even worse WITH her! I'm a terrible daughter. Although, all the pics taken were taken by her. God, I love her.

On to baby news. We had a wonderful lil scare sunday night when I was getting off work. I started having contractions during my last two hours, and they were pretty intense. L&D told me to come down so they could monitor me. Come to find out, they were indeed contractions, because I have a yeast infection that won't clear up, and ANOTHER UTI! Oooooh the joys of pregnancy. So, the two infections, on top of work, stress over having to do 4x a day diabetes testing and the baby shower and just living life, it apparently got to me. But David is doing great, has an incredibly strong heart beat and is a happy, happy baby.

Yesterday we had our L&D tour at the hospital. It went really well and we got all the important questions answered. We will have a private delivery room, a private MIS (Maternal Infant Services) room, unless they get full and we need to double up. The baby can be in the room with us from birth, for circumcision and all! No need to go to the nursery, unless requested or medically needed. I'd only be in the hospital for two days after birth and then get to go home. We are allowed two visitors at a time. Tim and I have started deciding on the birth plan. I have no problem with visitors during labor, but when the doctor comes in for delivery, everyone but Tim, the doctor and nurses must go. We want a quiet delivery room, and don't want a lot of crazy hub-bub and screaming around the baby. Everyone can come back when I get moved up stairs to MIS when baby and I get stable. Tim will be able to spend the night in the hospital with me and the baby, as a matter of fact, he doesn't have to leave either! We don't have to go to the hospital until I am 4cm or when my water breaks. I am no required to get an epidural, I can get pain meds (ie morphine and Demerol) to cut the edge of the pain, so we don't have to worry about any numbing agents going into my body and me dying. :)

After the tour, Tim and I started getting the baby bag ready with all the necessities. After the scare on sunday, were not taking any risks. The nursery is almost ready, although there are a few things we need for when the baby comes home (ie a pack-n-play, breast-feeding supplies, baby monitor, etc). So we're saving up our pennies! Tim leaves in less than a month to go to 29 palms for two weeks. I'm scared but it's prep for when Tim leaves for Iraq.

Other than that, life is good. Tim is doing amazing and is proving day after day that he's going to be a great daddy!

Baby update - 29 weeks and counting!

So the baby shower is this weekend, and I'm getting further excited by the day! We just got back from Ohio yesterday and had an amazing trip. It was so nice to be able to see Tim's family on pleasant terms. Tim's Grandma Phyllis gave us a great baby gift, as well as his Mom. Gma Phyllis made us two blankets, one for the bassinet and a larger one. She also gave us a bunch of baby clothes. Mom gave us some really cool toys, car seat toys. It was so nice, and unexpected!

So in baby news, he's growing by the day, and taking up plenty of room. My acid reflux/hiatal hernia is acting up again. I finally had it under control until about two weeks ago when the radiating heartburn started up. I've been getting real sick because of it. My doctor says because of the hernia, there's unfortunately nothing to do but take Tums or Mylanta. We've also had to take the gestational diabetes test several times. The first time we took the test my levels were a little elevated, so we had to do the 3-hour glucose test. Both times we took it, it was blown. I had gotten sick after both tests. But other than those two minor hiccups physically, the baby is doing really well. He kicks up a storm and makes Tim smile every time.
